April Fool!
With just over one month until the Mississauga Marathon, I decided that it’s time to get a bit more serious with my training. I may never get totally ready in time, but at least I won’t die after 10km. I’ve also thought about ditching the schedule I’m currently doing, for the most part, and just trying to run at least 5km every day. Of course, I’ll have to put some speed work in there, as well as a long-ish run (over 20km) on either Saturday or Sunday, but more importantly, I want to see if I can force myself to go out and do a minimum of 30 minutes of running each day, and see how long I can keep the streak alive. April 1st seemed like a good day to start this, being a Monday, and also April Fools Day.
The first thing I did is start off the day with a smoothie. Yes, I actually GOT UP EARLY and made a smoothie instead of my usual bagel and cream cheese. I made a strawberry banana smoothie using instructions I found here . My smoothie consists of:
- half a banana
- two teaspoons of protein powder
- a handful of frozen strawberries
- two teaspoons of rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon flaxseed oil
- 1 cup water
I put it all in the Magic Bullet, and after a minute or so of blending, voila! Didn’t taste too bad, either!
Today’s run was a 5.7km loop around the neighbourhood where I work. It includes a nice section of an old rail trail that was paved last year. It was way colder than I expected, and super-windy. I chose to do the route backwards to avoid the sharp up-hill piece on the way back, but the wind blowing in my face for half the run slowed me down more than I expected.
